When to replace your roof

Your roof is a critical part of your home.  It protects you and your possessions from the elements and keeps you warm in winter. One sign that it’s time to replace the roof is when water starts leaking into your home. So how do you know when it’s the right time to replace it.

Water starts to leak into your home when a roof has lost its ability to repel water.  This can be due to storm damage or deterioration of the roof due to age.

Finding the source of the water leak can be tricky. Water always travels the path of least resistance, meaning a hole at the top of the roof may show as a leak in the hallway! Pay special attention to skylights, vents and chimneys for holes or cracks.  Another way to locate a leak is to shine a torch into dark areas to check for mould or damp spots that may indicate where the leak is coming from.

When replacing a roof, always consult a professional who has the necessary qualifications and insurances.
