Checking a roof is important part of keeping a room. The roof is the homes primary defense against the elements, and even small damage done will be made worse over time as the roof is weathered upon.
Fortunately, checking a roof for damage, is an easy process and does not require any specialist knowledge. When checking for a leak, follow these simple tips to help find and fix the problem:
- Running water, such as rain water should reveal the location of the leak.
- When looking for the leak, start by looking at the roof uphill from the stains.
- The first thing to keep an eye out for should be any roof penetrations. These are by far the most common source of leaks.
- If you find the rough area of a leak, start removing shingles around that area. With them removed, there’ll be evidence of the leak and you’ll be able to track it down right to the source.
