Green Building Schemes
Green building schemes have been set up by local and national governments throughout the world. The term “green building scheme” can, however, be quite misleading, as the focus isn’t always placed purely on sustainable building practices, but also on constructing living communities which are able to provide a good quality of life which is based upon sustainability.
In recent years, we’ve seen the investment in developing green technology which can be used to make building development more ecologically sustainable grow tremendously, but as has been said, this isn’t the only goal of a GBS (green building scheme); we also need to develop communities which are able to live comfortably in an environment which encourages ecologically sustainable lifestyles.
We’ve seen numerous GBS’s which have sought to do just this, such as the one developed in the city of Brighton & Hove. Their scheme doesn’t just seek to use sustainable building, but also to design communities which use space more efficiently, through incorporating natural surroundings and areas where people can grow their own food. This doesn’t just change the way we have to plan building developments, but also the attitudes of inhabitants, which is sure to multiply the benefits of such as scheme over the coming years.
