Deal done for Shinfield bypass

The investment secured by Wokingham Borough Council and the University of Reading supports proposals to construct 2,400 new homes in addition to the University’s proposed 18,580sqm Science & Innovation Park south of the M4.

The council considers the planned road to be crucial for development around Shinfield, Spencers Wood and 3 Mile Cross – and area referred to as the South of M4 Strategic Development Location (SDL). Funding is inside the kind of a loan from the houses & Communities Agency (HCA) to the University of Reading.

Housebuilder Bovis Homes is already on site building a 270-home development within the SDL in a place called Mitford Fields. Group development director Michael Black said: “Mitford Fields have been taking shape over the past year and we’ve worked closely with Wokingham Borough Council and other organisations to make sure that suitable infrastructure is in place for a brand new development of this size. The comfort road could be a big portion of this vision for the realm and it not just represents excellent news for existing residents and potential homebuyers but also needs to create jobs and supply a lift to the local economy.”
