Construction sites allowed to extend site hours

The UK government published a written ministerial statement on planning and construction working hours on the 13th of May 2020. This statement requests that local planning authorities should approve an extension of construction sites working hours meaning they will be able to operate Monday-Saturday until 9 pm. The statement states that these requests should be granted unless there is a very good reason against why they shouldn’t.

These changes are only temporary and only apply to developers where construction hours are controlled by planning conditions. Any developers wishing to take advantage of this must apply to their local planning authority. They should be advised whether they will be able to extend their regular site hours or may be advised to submit a formal application. If the changes are minimal then this may be agreed informally.

You may be able to extend hours to after 9 pm if your site conditions enable it. If you have no residential dwellings nearby then this may be authorised. These changes will only be allowed Monday-Saturday with no extensions being permitted on Sundays.
